Update Wednesday, February 26, 5.30pm: We have just published a new report on the trial. Find it here.
The boy accused of murdering Bhim Kohli in a Leicester park is reported to have said he needed to "release" his anger following a break-up with his ex-girlfriend. In a letter with an unnamed professional, the teenager also admitted using violence following the alleged fatal attack on Mr Kohli in Braunstone Town's Franklin Park last September.
The 15-year-old's admission reportedly came one month after he was charged with the 80-year-old's murder. In the letter, which was provided to the jury at Leicester Crown Court on Tuesday (February 25), the boy said: "My ex broke up with me and I was struggling with that, so I kind of just needed anger etc releasing. I accept I did it and I'm doing time. I'm just scared about how long I have to do."
The prosecutor, Harpreet Sandhu KC, told the jury that the professional had later met with the boy and told him that the letter would have to be disclosed to the prosecution at his murder trial. He said the boy replied: "That's my manslaughter plea gone."

Mr Sandhu told the jury to pay attention to what the boy had not stated in the letter, which the jury was provided with a full copy of. He said: "He did not say he had attacked Bhim Kohli in self-defence or in defence of another.
"The prosecution suggest at the time he attacked Bhim Kohli the violence he used had nothing to do with self-defence or defence of another - he was acting out of anger."
The jury previously heard how the boy had made a statement to the police after he was arrested in which he stated Mr Kohli had tried to hit him and then tried to attack his 12-year-old friend. The boy's statement to Leicestershire Police said all his actions were in self-defence or defence of the girl.
The girl, who is now 13, is on trial alongside the boy. She is charged with manslaughter for allegedly encouraging the boy to use violence against Mr Kohli.
The jury heard more about the girl's interview with police. The girl said in her interview that she believed Mr Kohli carried a knife and that the boy defendant went to ask Mr Kohli if that was true.
She said that later, as they were leaving the park, Mr Kohli was following them and swearing at her. She said: "He'd come in front of me, tried intimidating me, lifting up his hands and that to show he was going to hurt me."
She said the boy then pushed Mr Kohli over and the pair of them ran off. She had a second police interview after the police had obtained her Snapchat video that allegedly showed the boy slapping Mr Kohli in the face with one of his shoes while Mr Kohli was kneeling on the ground.
The girl replied: "[The boy] was running away from him and the old man had picked up his slider to go hit him and [the boy] had took it back and he slapped him round the head with his slider."
The defendants deny the charges against them. The trial continues.
