Coronation Street fans are speculating that Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) may play a role in the upcoming armed siege, following the revelation of Rob Donovan's (Marc Baylis) unexpected return to the cobbles.
The ITV soap's followers have been sent into a frenzy after a dramatic new trailer was released on Friday (February 28), confirming Rob's return to Weatherfield, possibly for the last time.
As viewers are aware, Carla (Alison King) is recuperating from her recent kidney transplant and abduction by Rob, who agreed to be a donor only to evade prison where he's serving time for the murder of Tina McIntyre in 2014.
Rob stepped in to help Carla when it was disclosed she'd need another kidney transplant due to sepsis, after being approached by his son, Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll).
However, it quickly became apparent that Rob's motives weren't the best. He planned to use his hospital stay as an opportunity to escape with the assistance of prison officer Mandy, with whom he was romantically involved to facilitate his escape plans.
But when Carla's partner DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) double-crossed him, Rob sought revenge. The ensuing drama saw Rob use DS Lisa Swain to locate the deserted warehouse where Mandy was waiting with a sickly Carla.
He was taken aback by the news of Mandy's pregnancy and, realising she had been manipulated, she departed, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Rob's dramatic return to Weatherfield has been confirmed, as he demands that his sister Carla helps him with a daring escape. As the tension heightens with armed police closing in on the house where they are holed up, a single gunshot leaves viewers on edge about who could be Rob's next victim.
Fans speculate wildly on social media, with some fans suggesting that Betsy might be at the centre of the stand-off.
One person said: "I'm beginning to think that they are bargaining with Rob and telling him they'll help him because he has Betsy hostage and they would do anything for her #Swarla #Corrie."
