Drivers are set to face a mile-long diversion to cope with just 250 metres of roadworks from next week. Closures will be in place for a number of days.

The warning has been issued for drivers using Belton Street in Shepshed. A 250-metre stretch of the town centre road will be shut from Monday (February 17) on public safety grounds.

Leicestershire County Council, who have confirmed the road closure, say it will be in place between Pick Street and Tickow Lane. The closure has been issued so the council can undertake bus stop works in Belton Street.

The works mean Belton Street is closed to all traffic between those two junctions. In their place will be a diversion that takes drivers via Brook Street, Lansdowne Road, and Oakley Road. The diversion, which applies in both directions, is almost a mile in length.

The closure begins on Monday, February 17 and will be in place from 9.30am until 3.30pm. It is set to last five days, with drivers wanting more information urged to look on the one.network website.
