More fraudulent QR codes have been discovered on parking machines across Leicester, triggering an urgent warning from city officials. Up to 15 fake stickers have been found and removed from pay and display machines in the Westcotes area, and The Newarke, near De Montfort University.
Leicester City Council has reminded motorists that it never requests parking payment via QR codes on any of its machines throughout the city. People scanning the codes believing they are paying for parking risk becoming victims of criminals attempting to steal money.
The council said that any QR code seen on a council parking machine was fraudulent, without exception. Motorists are being warned to avoid using any QR codes they might find on parking equipment across the city.

A spokesperson for the council said: "Remember: We NEVER ask for parking payment by QR code on city council pay and display parking machines. If you see a QR code on a machine, it is fake, do not scan it!"
A council spokesperson previously said legitimate payment methods included the PayByPhone app and card payments made directly via the machines themselves. Motorists have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police immediately.
