Leicester City’s home clash with Wolves has been moved after the Premier League accepted the club's request.
City asked if the game, originally kicking off at 3pm on Saturday, December 21, could be rescheduled to avoid a clash with Leicester Tigers, who host Bristol in the Gallagher Premiership on the same day, with kick-off five minutes later. The request has been granted by the Premier League and City will now host Wolves at 2pm on Sunday, December 22.
Tigers’ meeting with Bristol is a TV game, and will be shown live on TNT Sports, and so can’t be moved. With the two Leicester clubs sharing some matchday staff, it would have been difficult for the games to run simultaneously, while it would have led to heavy traffic in the city with around 55,000 fans descending on the King Power Stadium and Mattioli Woods Welford Road.
The match is the final City fixture before Christmas and the last game before what appears to be the toughest double-header of the club’s season. They travel to title challengers Liverpool on Boxing Day before hosting champions Manchester City three days later.
With the meeting at Anfield the late kick-off, starting at 8pm, and with the game against Man City brought forward to 12.30pm on Sunday, December 29, City have the shortest gap between festive fixtures this season. Still, they will have 64-and-a-half hours to recover, more than the 60-hour minimum rest the Premier League now adheres to following previous complaints around fatigue at Christmas.
