A man was reportedly punched and knocked unconscious during an assault in Leicester city centre on New Year's Eve. Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.

Officers said they were called to Newarke Street just after midnight on Tuesday, December 31, following a reported assault. The victim, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital as a precaution but did not suffer life-threatening nor life-changing injuries, a force spokesperson said.

Leicestershire Police released an image yesterday (Thursday, February 27) of a man officers believe might have information about the incident. They are urging anyone who recognises him to come forward.

The investigating officer, PC Jess Beaver, said: "From inquiries carried out since the incident occurred, I believe the man pictured has information that could help my investigation."

"I'm hoping someone recognises him from the clothes he can be seen wearing. If you know who he is, or that person is you, then please get in touch," PC Beaver added.

Anyone with information should call Leicestershire Police on 101, quoting reference 24*771546. Alternatively, information can be reported on the force's website.
