A pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries following a collision in Leicester's city centre last night (Thursday, February 27). The incident happened in Vaughan Way, a major route which was closed by emergency for several hours.
Officers were called to the scene by East Midlands Ambulance Service at 5.49pm on Thursday (February 27). The collision, which involved a pedestrian and a car, happened along Vaughan Way between St Nicholas Circle and the Highcross shopping centre's John Lewis car park.
The pedestrian, who suffered serious leg injuries, remains in hospital today, a police spokeswoman said. A significant police presence was reported at the scene at the time, and motorists faced lengthy queues.

A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said today (Friday, February 28): "We received a call at 5.49pm last night (27 February) from East Midlands Ambulance Service following their attendance at a road traffic collision on Vaughan Way, Leicester. A pedestrian, who was in collision with a car, sustained serious leg injuries and remains in hospital receiving treatment."
"The driver and passenger in the car were not injured," she added. "The road was closed to allow emergency services to respond to the incident. It has since been reopened."
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Police said their investigation remained ongoing.
