Former Leicester City coach Steve Rands has returned to the game with Champions League hopefuls Borussia Dortmund.
Rands, who was sacked alongside Steve Cooper back in November, has taken up a position as a first-team coach and analyst at the Bundesliga side under their new boss Niko Kovac.
A trusted lieutenant of Cooper’s, having worked with him at Swansea and Nottingham Forest, Rands was sacked alongside the Welshman and assistant manager Alan Tate back in November.
Rands, who has also previously worked at Manchester City, had the same role at City as he now does at Dortmund, who are in the last 16 of the Champions League, with two legs against Lille to come next month.
Writing on LinkedIn, Rands said: “Excited to share that I’ve joined Champions League and Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund!
“It’s an incredible opportunity to be part of a club with such a rich history, passionate fanbase, and commitment to excellence.
“Looking forward to contributing to the journey ahead and working alongside some of the best minds in the game. Let’s get to work!”
Last season’s beaten Champions League finalists have had a tough season domestically, one that has seen Nuri Sahin sacked as manager.
Former Bayern Munich boss Kovac was brought in at the start of this month. He lost his first two Bundesliga games before thrashing Union Berlin 6-0 at the weekend.
In the Champions League, Kovac earned a 3-0 aggregate win over Sporting Lisbon to set up the tie with Lille.
Rands was brought to City by Cooper alongside goalkeeping coach Danny Alcock and first-team coach Ben Dawson, who were both axed by the club this week.
Just one member of Cooper’s backroom team remains at the club in set-piece coach Andrew Hughes.
