Adding a hotel stay to the end of a busy day out is one of life's little luxuries. It enhances the entire experience and saves us from driving home tired.

We had a delightful visit to Warwick Castle, a family favourite, followed by the added indulgence of staying in its newest hotel. The hotel blends seamlessly into the surroundings, resembling a medieval long hall.

Each room at the Warwick Castle Hotel accommodates two adults and up to three children. The rooms pay homage to the War of the Roses with rose motifs, chambers adorned with richly coloured fabrics, custom tapestries and shields.

Upon arrival, we were welcomed by an imposing statue of a knight on horseback that moves at certain times. Our two children were fascinated by it, creating a magical atmosphere as we checked in.

The check-in process was smooth, and we were quickly shown to our spacious, comfortable, medieval-themed room, which easily accommodated our family of four.

Our boys had bunk beds, there was a pullout floor bed for a third child if needed, and also a travel cot. A half-wall slightly separated the bunk beds from our double bed, providing us with space to chat after the kids had gone to sleep.

The rooms are equipped with all the expected amenities: a flat screen TV, hairdryer, teas, coffees, biscuits and milk. However, there was no fridge, a necessity for storing milk for our young children before bedtime, but the hotel restaurant staff kindly provided this at no extra cost in the evening.

Access to the restaurant is via an outdoor bridge connected to the hotel, offering a sit-down buffet carvery with a selection of meats, potatoes, vegetables, salads, children's food (nuggets, chips and beans), and desserts.

The food was satisfying and hearty, exactly what you need after a long day - and the convenience of it being a buffet meant we could dine quickly, a crucial factor when dining with tired and irritable youngsters.

A buffet breakfast was served in the same location the following morning, then it was back to the magnificent Warwick Castle with standout features including War of the Roses Live, a thrilling live action jousting event, The Falconer's Quest birds of prey show, and Zog Playland, a fantastic play area for the little ones.

We found it challenging to fit everything into one day, so the hotel stay was perfect for extending the entire wonderful experience.
