A man who tried to stop two thugs attacking women outside a nightclub was left with a skull fracture and a bleed on the brain after being beaten to the ground in an "unprovoked attack". Security staff held onto the attackers until officers from Leicestershire Police arrived at the scene.

The incident happened at the club in Mansfield Street, Leicester city centre, in the early hours of Sunday, August 25 last year when Brodie Carmichael and Cameron Mitchell had been goading various people outside the nightclub, trying to engage them in a fight. Carmichael, 20, and 18-year-old Mitchell then turned their attention to two women, acting aggressively towards them.

The victim told the two young men to leave the women alone and they then turned on him. They chased him along the street, punching him to the floor before kicking and stamping on his head until he was unconscious.

The man suffered a skull fracture and a bleed on the brain from the attack as well as a sprained wrist. Police say he has since made a full recovery.

As the victim laid unconscious from the attack, security staff from the nightclub dragged the two attackers off him. They then held onto Carmichael and Mitchell until the police arrived.

The pair appeared before Leicester Crown Court on Wednesday (February 26) where Carmichael, of Sleath Drive, Ullesthorpe, near Lutterworth, pleaded guilty to one count of grievous bodily harm with intent. He was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in a Young Offenders Institution.

Meanwhile, Mitchell, of Longland Road, Northampton, was charged with the lesser offence of actual bodily harm, which he admitted. At the sentencing hearing he was sentenced to serve 18 months in a Young Offenders Institution.

Speaking after the sentencing, DC Guy Spreadborough said: “This was an unprovoked attack, carried out by two people who wanted to have a fight that night. The level of violence they directed towards the victim was horrendous, leaving him with serious injuries. Luckily, he made a full recovery.”
