Leicestershire's Twycross Zoo is searching for a candidate with a strong stomach and a sense of humour to fill a unique position this Halloween. The Atherstone attraction has confirmed it is searching for the world's first 'Poo Keeper' to join their team.
This specialist role will involve getting hands-on with the hundreds of kilograms of animal waste produced daily at the zoo. "The ideal candidate must have a great sense of humour and not be afraid to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into something smelly.” said a Twycross spokesperson.
The successful applicant will play a crucial role in the zoo's upcoming Trick-or-Treat Trail, welcoming visitors to the 'smelly' part of the zoo during the October half-term. They will also be responsible for educating guests about the importance of animal waste in conservation efforts.

Duties will include cleaning up after the animals and encouraging guests to participate in creepy Halloween activities, such as a sensory feel box filled with "sense-sational surprises". The zoo says that while all animals contribute to the zoo's impressive poo production, the giraffe herd is reportedly among the biggest culprits.
The new 'Poo Keeper' will be stationed near these long-necked residents, offering visitors unique insights into the world's tallest land animal. Beyond the laughs, this position plays a serious role in animal welfare and conservation efforts.
Twycross Zoo said that as animals can’t verbally communicate with humans, it’s often their poo that does the talking. The spokesperson said: “When mucking out, Poo Keepers can spot differences in the animals’ poo that might indicate if they need medical attention or a change in food.”
Twycross Zoo's spooky adventure, featuring the new Poo Keeper, launched on Saturday (October 19) and is in place until Sunday, November 3. Visitors can enjoy a range of Halloween-themed activities, including a live show, pumpkin painting, and face painting, alongside the zoo's regular attractions.
For those interested in this unique opportunity or to learn more about the Halloween events, further details are on the Twycross Zoo website.
